Product Description:  In 1883  Earl Grey was the British Prime Minister. He suspended the monopoly that the East India Company had over the tea trade with China. The original pure Chinese teas was lightly flavored with fine bergamot oil.  This was intended to protect the tea from the taste of mold and tar, which was likely to happen from the long voyages at sea to England.
